The strategy looks for high value, each-way bets. By backing horses with odds between 6/1 and 10/1 and using the guidelines below we’ve experienced around 80- 90% of the selections will at least place, showing a small profit.
But experience has demonstrated that approximately 20% will win their race, which at odds averaging 8/1 will see our profits spiral.
This strategy, to date, hasn’t incurred any long losing runs, when followed correctly. Here is how the strategy works;
Qualifying Races are:-
- Non handicap races with eight or nine runners.
- Jumps or Flat racing qualify
- Flat races – do not use two-year-old races or sprints (5-6 furlongs).
STEP 1 – Look for races where the odds suggest a possible “two horse race”, ie. the first two in the betting should be very shortly priced, usually one will be odds-on and the second horse around 7/4 to 2/1. ( ie. < 2.0 for a favourite and 1.75 – 3.0 for a 2nd favourite)
STEP 2 – The horse to back each-way will be the next (or third) horse in the betting. This horse will usually be 6/1 (7.0) or better in races with a two-horse book. This is the horse that the so-called form experts rate as the third best in the race.
As you no doubt know, odds set by the bookmakers represent each horse’s chances of winning the event, not coming placed, so backing the third best horse each-way is the finest value bet you can get in horse racing.
Two words of caution though, first of all don’t be tempted to select from the remaining runners. Keep disciplined, stick to the method, don’t allow room for emotions, hunches or personal judgement. This will always prove more profitable in the long run.
And secondly, in eight runner races be careful that there are no withdrawals. In eight runner races a place counts as first, second or third, but if there is a withdrawal and less than eight horses start, then only first and second will count as places.
