First off, just looking at a race card and trying to figure out the winners of a greyhound race is not the way to profit. Just like any sports betting strategy the best greyhound betting systems will include different ways to bet on a race or series of races. Let’s start with setting yourself up for success.

Getting Started – Preparation

How To Prepare Correctly

If you’re going to be successful in any venture then it’s really important to have a good foundation. It’s just as true for greyhound betting. There are four cornerstones to your success in developing your own betting strategy.

Whether you are going to the track or betting online, it helps to be prepared. The four pillars for your success are; understanding how dogs run in a race, what traps they are drawn in, the weather at the track, and being a track guru.

Understanding The Dogs

The phrase horses for courses, is just as true for greyhound racing. Understanding how dogs run in a race and at a certain track is important. If a dog is fast out of the box, it’s likely best suited to sprint races. Maybe it’s slow to start but likes to come from behind. In which case it will do best in a stayers race.

Doing the research on the dog’s pedigree, previous performances, and the trainer it is stabled with, can help in analysing the runners in a race. Helping you identify likely winners and potential losers in a race.

To be successful in understanding greyhound racing and finding the right dogs. You are going to need to learn how to read form.

LEARN HOW TO READ FORM

Typically form guide cards are the same whether you’re at the track or checking the race card online.

It does take time to understand the form card. But with practice you’ll start to understand the different signals presented on them to help your selections.

I’ll run through a UK race form card with you here;

To illustrate let’s use a Swindon form card for the greyhound running out of Trap 3.

After the Trap number is the dog’s name.

In previous years, there used to be a letter in brackets. THis would indicate what part of the track a dog preferred to run; [R]ails,[M]iddle or [W]ide. But not any more!

Not that big a problem as you can check from the form in the ‘Remarks’ column how the dog ran in previous races. Here’s a summary of what each column signals;

Date – The date of the race

Track – Racetrack name, usually dogs will run at their ‘home’ track unless they are in the national competitions like the ‘Derby’

Dis – Distance of the race ran

Trp – Trap the dog ran from

Split – The time, in seconds, the dog ran from leaving the traps to crossing the starting line

Bends – the dogs position in the race at each bend; 1 to 6 or 1-8 depending on number of dags in the race (country specific)

Fin – where the dog finished

By – distance dog won by or was beaten by the winning greyhound

Win/Sec – name of the dog that came second (if this dog won) or the dog that won the race

Remarks – abbreviated summary of the performance; e.g. Mid = Middle, Chl = Challenged, RnIn = Run in

WnTm – winning race time

Gng – Track going allowance

Wght – the greyhounds weight before the off

SP – forecasted starting price of the dog

Grade – Grade of the race ran

CalTm – Race time of the dog, includes adjustment for the going allowance

In the above example T3 seems to be a good prospect to win the race, it’s been placed or won in its last 4 races on this track and distance. And Brosna Pet has been joint favourite in its last 2 races when finishing 2nd both times. You would have to see how it compares against other dogs in the same race. Did it win?

Yes it did, it was also a very short odds on favourite.

MBT Sports Pro Tip: Look For Value in The Lower Grades

UK greyhound races are graded A1 to A11. With A1 being the highest grade. The younger greyhounds will usually run in the lower grade races. By looking at these lower grades you could spot a future profitable dog.

In the lower grade races odds are often better value because of the outcome being less certain. It’s always worth following the lower grade greyhound races, which is where the younger dogs will be running.

Greyhounds are bred for a certain type of race. But when they are just starting out the dogs will be trialed over different distances. You should follow certain race tracks and keep a watch on the new dogs’ progress. Doing this will help you spot value and should be an integral part of your overall strategy.

Know The Trap

When you’ve identified a good prospect in a race you’ll need to check what Trap it’s running out of. If you have a copy of my book The Two Trap Greyhound System, you’ll know that some traps are more successful than others. This is especially true when you can identify certain race tracks.

It’s worth knowing the Track stats by distance as well as how often your selection has won out of that trap and over that distance. This is especially useful if you are placing large wagers. Have a read of the FAQ section in my article that covers traps in more detail here.

Weather Conditions

The weather can play a big part in the outcome of a race. This is especially true when the track is not an all weather surface. Just as dogs perform differently depending on the Trap draw. They can either win or lose depending on the weather conditions. When you’re checking a dog’s past form, check what the weather was like on the day it either won or lost.

If your selection has never won on a rainy day, probably best to avoid that race if it’s raining.

Become A Track Guru

This factor is as equally important as any of the other three. Especially when developing your own greyhound betting strategy.

Understanding the dog, the traps and how the weather impacts them is crucial. Understanding how a Track performs is just as important. You need to become an expert at a few tracks and only focus on race meetings at those tracks.

Obviously the tracks you choose should have a proven history of past winners, with some clear signals. In many countries dogs usually race at only one, or two local tracks. Getting to know the dogs, the successful trainers, and the track will help to identify possible trends or signals.

It’s best to choose busy and popular race tracks as they will have a lot of dogs and a good back history of data on which to do your research. All of this research will take some time. But when you start to see the fruits of your research with more successful winning dogs I’m sure you realise the benefit.

Before I get into how to create your strategy, let’s take a look at some of the background into the sport of greyhound racing.

Greyhound Racing: background

Greyhound racing was at its peak over 70 years ago. Back in the 1950s there were more than 100 greyhound stadiums in the UK.

Fast forward to today and there are only 19 official race tracks left in the UK.

The sport has been saved ironically by the internet and the popularity of online gambling. Greyhound betting makes up 20% of bookmakers annual income.

About The Races

As mentioned earlier, every greyhound is registered to a ‘home’ track and the greyhound races between home dogs. In the UK races are graded from A1 (the highest) to A11. In Australia by letters A, B, C, D, J and M (for Maiden), and in the USA it’s A, B, C, D, E and M (for Maiden).

As a dog progresses up the order the races become more competitive with more ‘equally matched dogs; – well in theory anyway. Dogs will move up or down the graded races depending on form.

Each country’s greyhound association will stipulate race distances, some are the same. But it’s worth getting to know what these distances are and what distances are most used at the race tracks you’re following.

Greyhound Traps

I’ll cover the 3 major greyhound countries, UK, Australia and USA.

In the UK, six dogs per race is the maximum permitted number of runners. Each trap has its own colour scheme, which is reflected in the jacket each greyhound wears. This makes it easier for you to spot your dog by its jacket colour.

  • Trap 1 – Red jacket, white number 1
  • Trap 2 – Blue jacket, white number 2
  • Trap 3 – White jacket, black number 3
  • Trap 4 – Black jacket, white number 4
  • Trap 5 – Yellow jacket, black number 5
  • Trap 6 – Black and white striped jacket, red number 6

In the USA, eight dogs per race is the maximum permitted

  • Trap 1 – Red jacket, white number 1
  • Trap 2 – Blue jacket, white number 2
  • Trap 3 – White jacket, black number 3
  • Trap 4 – Green jacket, white number 4
  • Trap 5 – Black jacket, red number 5
  • Trap 6 – Yellow jacket, black number 6
  • Trap 7 – Green/White striped jacket, black number 7
  • Trap 8 – Black jacket, white number 8

In Australia, eight dogs per race is the maximum permitted

  • Trap 1 – Red jacket, white number 1
  • Trap 2 – Black and white striped jacket, red number 2
  • Trap 3 – White jacket, black number 3
  • Trap 4 – Blue jacket, white number 4
  • Trap 5 – Yellow jacket, black number 5
  • Trap 6 – Green jacket, red number 6
  • Trap 7 – Black jacket, yellow number 7
  • Trap 8 – Pink jacket, black number 8

A bit of a pity they couldn’t agree to keep 1 through 6 the same and change 7 and 8!

Types of Betting Markets for Greyhound Betting

I have written a number of articles on the various betting systems for greyhound racing. You can check out ‘5 Greyhound Betting Systems That Win’ and ‘Betting on Greyhounds – A Beginners Guide’ for more. I’ve included an overview below for reference.

In greyhound betting, there are four main markets:

  • Straight bets
  • Forecast bets
  • Accumulators
  • Prop bets

In my experience, the best greyhound betting strategies use a mix of all types of bet. Let’s cover each one and see how they work.

Straight Bets

Straight bets are simple win or place bets. You wager on an outright winner or you’re betting each way.

Forecast Bets

Those of you familiar with horse racing will likely know these types of markets:

  • Forecast – pick the winner and second place dogs in the correct order.
  • Tricast – pick the first, second and third placed dogs in the correct order.
  • Reverse – Similar to Forecast and Tricast, but the dogs you select can place in any order for you to win.
  • Exacta and Trifecta – these are Tote-only versions of Forecast and Tricast bets which have a minimum stake and winnings defined by the number of winning tickets and the Tote pool dividend. You’ll usually have to be at the actual race track to place these wagers.

Accas

Unless you are completely new to sports betting or trading you will be familiar with accumulator bets. The odds can be very high with an acca bet, this reflects the level of chance versus probability of success. As every prediction on your ticket must be correct, or your bet loses.

MBT Sports Pro Tip: Acca Strategy

A good acca strategy is to pick performing teams/dogs/horses that are generally low odds favorites or joint favourites and place them in an Accumulator bet of 3 to 6 selections. Placing low-stakes accumulator bets should always be a part of your betting strategy.

Matched Betting

Matched betting comes in various forms. Back and Lay, hedging, arbitrage, or the most popularly known variation is matched betting.

All three will guarantee a lock in profit. All three require a lot of extra time and effort to trade in.

Back and Lay

Simply done by covering every bet you place with your bookie by ‘laying’ it through a betting exchange. When done well, back and lay can almost completely eliminate potential gambling losses. It does require a lot of time and effort.

Here’s a simple explanation of how backing and laying works.

About 5 minutes before the race, let’s say you picked a greyhound running in Trap 6. In this case, a “back” would be betting on Trap 6 to win. A “lay” bet would be betting on the opposite – i.e. Trap 6 not finishing in 1st place.

Obviously you can’t just back and lay straight off. You need to find a variation between the back and lay odds, also known as a spread. The spread is where you get the guaranteed profit. Back and lay is only effective in the run up to the start of a greyhound race, just before the off.

Greyhound races finish generally inside a minute, so there’s very little in-running time to lock in a trade. You do need to watch out for the odds and how they move through the build up of a race. If lots of others bet on Trap 6 the odds will shorten (go down). If not then the odds go long (move up). You need to be able to catch the odds that are profitable to you.

Here’s a recent example;

Hedging for Guaranteed Profit?

No doubt you’re familiar with the phrase ‘hedging your bets’.

Hedging protects you from losses and locking in a guaranteed profit. This is definitely more of a sports trading strategy since you’re locking in lower guaranteed profits as you are covering yourself against a loss. For example, rather than double your stake with a straight bet by using a hedging strategy you may guarantee say just an extra 50% return or half point guaranteed profit.

There are variations on hedging. Maybe betting on say the favourite to place but then the second favourite to show. In greyhound racing this is very doable. You do have to be right on top of your trading game for this to work. If the odds move too quickly against you, you won’t lock in that guaranteed profit.

Arbitrage

Arbitrage is similar to hedging your bets but it is done in a way that it guarantees you a profit regardless of outcome. This can be done through a betting exchange. This is because you can bet on how the odds are moving as well as how the odds are positioned. If you’re new to betting exchanges you should be very cautious when starting, best to paper trade or virtual trade until you’re comfortable with your new trading abilities.

Matched Betting – Free Bets

Matched betting is very popular, mainly because it makes use of bookmaker special offers so that you can create free bets, lay the pick on an exchange and profit regardless of the result. This subject would make a whole other article. For now, just know it’s a great way to support your sports betting strategies.

Build Your Own Greyhound Betting Strategy

YOUR STRATEGY

I hope this article has helped you get familiar with greyhound betting and that you’re ready to create your own strategy.

As I said earlier, your strategy should have a number of systems or markets within the core system. Will you look to back and lay, straight bets or arbitrage? Whatever you decide you will need a good understanding of how the races work, the form of the greyhounds, and other important factors which can affect the outcome of a race.

Taking a more professional and disciplined approach to your sports betting and trading will inevitably make you more successful and profitable. The more you learn about greyhound racing, the tracks, the form etc and identify a couple of tracks you have a better understanding of will help with your success.

Once you’ve found the area of greyhound racing that appeals most to you, you can build your greyhound betting strategy around those criteria and signals.

Finding the Value Bet

Over time as you become more experienced you’ll be able to calculate your own odds and compare those against the bookmaker odds. A value bet is where you have identified an opportunity where your analysis suggests that the online bookmakers have got their odds wrong.

Creating and keeping up to date records of your bets, signals that worked, those that didn’t, and making key notes of that, will help you understand more. It takes time to become efficient and consistent with your winning bets.

Always remember to only bet what you can afford to lose and never bet with emotion. Keep calm, be disciplined and professional and you will achieve success over time.

Recovery strategy

It has to be said that there are two main schools of thought around stake recovery plans. This is a very divisive subject, much like climate change or the world being flat!

After many years of trading in my experience I much prefer to have an opportunity to recover my lost stake on a future wager, rather than think I have lost my stake forever.

Don’t misunderstand me; there are some really bad recovery systems and if you follow them you are almost certain to lose your shirt. The martingale system being one of those.

The martingale system is simply where you double your stake in the event of a loss. This relies on you having a big enough betting bank or you are infinitely wealthy. If you have a poor strategy, or worse still, no betting strategy you are certain to lose everything and real fast. So DON’T do it.

Just to illustrate. If you had a 100 point betting bank and you placed 5 points to win, but lost the first event. And you used the martingale system to recover. You only need a losing streak of 4 bets to run out of stake money!

Another bad system is The Monte Carlo system. Basically this is where you bet against an event simply because you believe the winning run has to come to an end. This really is gambling and chance. It’s not based on any proven system.

A really good example is in football; The Premier League season of 2003/4, a lot of punters (amateur gamblers) lost a fortune betting against Arsenal. They won the Premier League without losing a single game. 26 wins and 12 draws.

Imagine the temptation to bet against Arsenal, especially during the silly season of Christmas. Had you tried, you would most certainly have been the worst for it.

So I don’t believe in not having a recovery strategy, nor do I believe in a ‘all in’ recovery approach either. I prefer to use a stake recovery system but with an unemotional stop loss which I set before I start trading for the day.

Stay Away From Fun Bets

Another word of warning. Avoid bookmakers’ special bets. You know the ones; the Premier League Special acca at 200/1 for example. When you look at the detail you can easily be seduced into thinking the outcomes are realistic.

But ask yourself ; in 5 matches do you really see both teams getting over 1 corner in each half and both teams to score in each half? If you’re tempted, just look at that offer again.

Over 1 corner each team in each half. That’s 2 corners each team each half. 10 teams. There is a tendency for teams to start slow in the first half. Statistics show there are more corners in the second half in the majority of matches.

Then add to this all 10 teams to score a goal in each half. If you really think this is worth a punt, check out the statistics for the number of matches that are 0-0, 1-0, 0-1 at half time. I’ll save you the search; it’s 75%.

Fortunately there are few fun bets for greyhound racing.

How often do greyhound favorites win

As with any type of betting or gambling, luck will always play a role in determining the outcome of a race. However, there are some factors which may give you an edge to certain greyhounds over others when it comes to winning races.

Such things as the dog’s pedigree, being well trained and conditioned for the race ahead of time. Also having experienced handlers who know where to properly position the dog in the Trap in the order for maximum speed and efficiency.

And of course form. Statistically it’s been seen as an average across all tracks that favorites win around 30% of the time. Which means they lose 70% of the time! if you’re using a lay strategy that’s great news!

What is the most profitable greyhound betting system

5 Greyhound Betting Systems That Win

====

Since publishing my ebook: The Two Trap Greyhound System, currently in its 6th edition. The question; how to win betting on greyhounds has come up in conversation many times.

It’s my experience that Greyhound racing is overlooked by many bettors mainly because they don’t understand the sport. Or, maybe they have dabbled in the past and have lost their money. If you’re not sure about betting on greyhounds or you’re a beginner, go and read my article on betting on greyhounds – a beginners guide.

Once you have read this article, you will have a better understanding of greyhound systems available to you, and remember to come back here after. There are a number of ways you can win your greyhound bets. Like any sports betting strategy, it takes more than blind luck to win consistently, this is just as true when betting on greyhounds.

In this article, we’ll discuss some of the best greyhound betting systems that will help you make money while having fun along the way. We’ll look at a variety of systems, from basic strategies to the more advanced ones that require a deeper understanding of the sport.

I will be sharing with you 5 greyhound betting systems that win. Using these 5 greyhound systems, you can increase your chances of success. Remember to use a good staking plan, bet wisely and be disciplined.

System Number 1, Exchange Scalping.

It’s not easy to come up with a good profitable greyhound selection strategy if you rely only on backing just one greyhound in any one race. However, the concept behind exchange scalping is simple if you are following a proven strategy. Racing is frenetic, and the slightest bump or trip can change the race.

Backing more than one greyhound in a race increases your probability of winning. Depending on the country, there can never be more dogs running in a race than there are traps. In the UK, that’s a maximum of six dogs per race.

This simple strategy uses the lack of liquidity on betting exchanges to help improve your profits.

Here’s how:

  • Follow live race prices on a regular online bookmaker.
  • Wait for the live prices to appear and make note of the three longest odds dogs
  • Then go to your betting exchange site and back the 3 outsiders to win
  • Carry this on until you win, then stop at a win!

For you reading this, this system probably sounds counterintuitive. But, historically statistics show that favorites win around 30% of the time. Which if you’re using this kind of strategy is good news.

MBT Sports Pro Tip:

If you want the return to be the same whichever outsider wins, use a dutching calculator to adjust the stake to ensure the same profit.

System number 2, Outsiders Exchange

Here’s a twist on the scalping system above, but it does need patience and some research.

Follow a race meet and if you can find a track where early races are won by dogs at odds of greater than 4 then you could back the 3 outsiders on the betting exchanges, where the odds are usually better.

Here’s how.

This is called ‘paper trading’. Check the results for a venue that has already run 2 or 3 races.

If you see an outsider or two winning in these early races, check the same venue again once the racing has finished seeing if the strategy would have won.

If you want to test this idea out historically, go to the results pages and choose some days at random to see if the venue has consistent long odds winners.

You will find that at some venues the front three favourites in the market tend to dominate throughout. So look for the race track that is the reverse of that.

System number 3, Arbitrage

Back and Lay arbitrage, when done correctly, removes the risk associated with traditional betting. When using a sports bet exchange back and lay arbitrage, all you need to do is spot an opportunity where the back odds and lay odds pricing move in your favor and then place your bets accordingly. By doing this, you can lock in a guaranteed profit.

There’s many articles on how to do this, just search arbitrage betting for more details.

MBT Sports Pro Tip:

Always make sure there is sufficient liquidity in the exchange market to cover your arbitrage bet.

System number 4, Lay it – To win it

You’ll need a betting exchange account for this one.

First of all go to the site’s greyhound form page for the next race.

Then remove any Trap number that is mentioned winning either at the race track, the distance or the grade of race.

Whatever is left lay the Trap with the lowest odds.

Always lay on odds below 4.0. You only need a hit rate of 75% to profit using this system.

To learn more about lay betting on greyhounds go and read my article on the best greyhound trap to lay.

Frequently Asked Questions On How to Win Betting on Greyhounds

Is Greyhound Betting Worth IT?

I have been asked this question many times, and in my opinion the answer is a resounding yes. Whilst greyhound betting won’t necessarily make you rich, it will add to your sports trading arsenal. Greyhound betting is much more exposed to liquidity in the market, especially if you’re lay trading. To get a more detailed answer on this question head over to my article; Greyhound Betting: Is It Worth It?

Greyhound Betting: Is It Worth It?

What Number Wins Most in Greyhounds?

This is a big question! To be honest it’s probably an incomplete question really, or at least it should be asked with more context. You probably should ask; what number wins most at a greyhound racetrack? Why this question?

For clarity what we mean by number we can refer to as the Trap or Box number. In the UK there are only 6 traps, numbered 1 to 6. In the US and Australia it’s typically 8 boxes, numbered 1 to 8.

Being able to identify which trap wins most often at a greyhound track is at the core of my system; The Two Trap Greyhound System. But you don’t have to invest in my book to take advantage of knowing the importance of trap, or box, draws.

Typically, the trap draw will influence how a greyhound will run in any given race. You can make a huge difference to how often you successfully win your greyhound bets. If you understand how each trap, or box, can affect a greyhound, and which greyhounds perform at their best depending on the trap number they are drawn in.

I’ll give you an overview of the 8 box set up below. This is useful for Australia and the US. If you’re betting on UK and Irish race tracks where there are 6 Traps, this analysis is still valid, just reframe the middle 4 boxes.

It’s fair to say that, in general, Trap 1 will throw up more winners than any other trap. But that’s not helping if you want to increase the probability of you picking more winners at a particular racetrack.

BOX 1

A greyhound that prefers the rails and has good form and is a fast starter has a great chance of winning the race. You can check for this information on the form card and race reviews. A big advantage of Box 1 is it’s the inside Trap. So the Trap 1 dog does not have to jostle  with any other greyhounds on the inside. If the greyhound gets a good start and has first access to the rails running into the first corner, the dog has a good opportunity to leave the pack behind.

In Trap 1 the dog also misses any interference that could come from bunching just after the start when dogs in the outer boxes, who are ‘railers’, try to head across to the inside or ‘wide runners’ try to veer out.

When you’ve watched a lot of races, as I have, you’ll see that in many races the leading two or three dogs will move off the track when they hit the first turn. This leaves space for the Box 1 dog to run on in the rails.

MBT Sports Pro Tip:

When checking the form of a dog drawn in Trap 1, look for these points:

  1. Is it a good starter?
  2. Is it a confirmed ‘railer’?
  3. Has it won previously from Box 1?
  4. Has it got early speed and do you think, based on the other runners, it can lead to the first turn?
  5. Has it won over the distance of the race in a similar class event before?

If your analysis shows the answer to all these five questions is YES then the probability of a winning bet is very good.

Trap 1 can also be suited to greyhounds that prefer the outside or wider rails. This is because if they are quick starters they can pull away from the pack and still head to their preferred run.

If your analysis of a race concludes Trap 1 is your dog, and this is confirmed by the bookmaker odds making the Box 1 greyhound the favorite. Even better.

BOX 2

This is similar to Trap 1. A good starter in Box 2 should have a near equal chance to get to the first turn if it has the pace and can shoot out the box from the start. However, as it’s in Box 2, it does have that one rails dog on its inside. So it might be squeezed soon after the start.

BOX 3

Statistically the middle boxes don’t throw out so many winners. Railers or wide numbers perform much better across almost all race tracks. The only time that middle boxes have a fair chance is when the race is longer and the greyhounds form suggests they are better suited to the middle, the distance and have won from there in the past.

BOX 4

You probably think Trap 4 would be like Box 3? But surprisingly at most tracks it isn’t.

If you have a fast starter in Trap 4 then you are well in with a good chance of avoiding trouble. Oftentimes the middle dogs get space to settle down cleanly because of the jostling that occurs with the dogs on the inside or outside.

Obviously don’t take chances with Trap 4 greyhounds, back only good starters in Box 4. Slow start dogs will often find their path blocked by faster dogs or get caught up in the jostling as the dogs look for the favorite place on the track.

BOX 5 & 6 (of 8) or Trap 5 (of 6)

I regard 5 and 6 as the worst in an 8-dog event, similarly Trap 5 in a 6-dog race. Statistically this is proven right. Dogs starting from these boxes need a lot more going for them than the other runners.

They are subject to all sorts of challenges. Once again, they will have to be really fast starters if they are to overcome the natural disadvantages. If you fancy a greyhound running in these boxes make sure you have carefully examined the form and the racing tendencies of all the other dogs. That way you’ll have a good idea if they are capable of winning despite the handicap of the bad box.

MBT Sports Pro Tip:

You may find that favorites drawn in these unfancied boxes are a good prospect for a lay the favorite trade. So many top class greyhounds are beaten when starting from these middle boxes. There are so many things that can happen to upset their chances that you have the percentages stacked in your favor when laying. Especially where the odds are very short and therefore your lay liability is low.

BOX 7 in a 8-dog

This is a good box if your dog can break fast and prefers to run wide.

It’s a terrible box for slow starters, unless it’s a long distance race and the dog is more suited to the longer distance. Be careful though as a slow start can mean the dog may not see the hare and so loses motivation to chase.

BOX 8 in a 8-dog and Trap 6 in a 6-dog

The very outside trap, or box, is the 3rd best box in greyhound racing, the best 2 being Nos. 1 and 2. From the very outside, a dog can avoid the squeezes and jostling. This is especially true if it’s a fast starter and can find its preferred run to the first turn.

Wide runners are naturally suited to the outside Trap. Their tendency to stay wide will keep them clear of the other dogs. And when they make the first turn they tend to take a path wide out, thus missing any trouble.

Even a dog that is a good ‘railer’, and is a fast starter can often win the race from the outside Trap. Remember this when looking at favorites in Trap 1 and 2.

How Often Do Greyhound Favourites Win?

As part of my research for my system; The Two Trap Greyhound System, available as an ebook, historical statistics help to answer this question.

In an involving sport, chance always plays a part in the outcome. Nevertheless, there are some elements that give greyhounds an advantage over other sports, allowing them to win more frequently than others.

These include the dog’s pedigree, being well trained and conditioned for the race ahead of time, as well as having experienced handlers who know where to properly position the dog in the order for maximum speed and efficiency.

And of course, not forgetting form. Statistically though it’s been seen that, as an average, across all tracks, that favorites win around 30% of the time. Which if you’re using a lay strategy is great news! But not so good if you prefer to back your selections.

If you use the MBT Sports Pro Tips in the previous answers above, you can certainly give your selections an edge and maybe improve on your own favorite win ratio, well above 30%.

How Do You Bet on Greyhound Racing?

This may seem obvious but, the best way to bet on greyhounds is to know what you are doing. Although betting on greyhound racing seems simple, there are a few things you have to be aware of before you start to bet on dog races and expect to win.

I am not covering staking plans here, that’s for another time. Here I just look to answer the question; how do you bet on greyhound racing? By the how, I don’t mean the actual physical act of placing a bet, but more the different ways in which you can place bets or trades on greyhound races.

Here goes.

The different types of bets;

The types of bets in Greyhound Racing are very similar to those you will find in horse racing, here are the most common bet types in dog racing:

  • Win Bet – This is the simplest of all bets: you are backing the greyhound to win the race. Based on your analysis of the form of the dogs in the race. Your bet is going to win only if the dog you backed wins the race.
  • Place – A place bet is won when the dog wins, finishes second in the race.
  • Show – The selected greyhound must finish 1st, 2nd, or 3rd for this type of bet to win.
  • Each Way – Any bettor should know this, but just in case you are completely new to betting. Each way is a combined bet: half of the stake goes on the dog to win, and the other half goes on your selection to place, meaning that he should finish in the top 2. This may vary depending on the number of runners and the bookmaker’s rules. This type of bet is usually used on underdogs and not favorites. Underdogs have longer odds, but coming second as an each way with long odds can prove more profitable than backing a low price favorite.
  • Straight Forecast / Exacta – This bet requires you to pick the top two greyhounds to finish 1st and 2nd in the exact finishing order. It is a risky bet that comes with long odds.
  • Reverse Forecast – This bet allows you to win if you pick the top two dogs in either order. Your stake is halved as it is split across two straight forecast bets: half stake on each of the two likely outcomes.
  • Tricast / Trifecta – This bet is similar to the Straight Forecast, but this bet means you have to predict the finishing order of the first 3 greyhounds in the exact order.
  • Combination Tricast – Similar bet to the reverse forecast but with the three dogs finishing in the top 3 in any order.

MBT Sports Pro Tips:

Some form guide to watch for:

Remember to take into account all the important factors regarding box/trap draws, fitness, form, early speed, and late finishing ability.

Watch for a greyhound that has been dropped down in grade. The dog may have poor form because he has been racing against much stronger greyhounds. When a dog is downgraded back in class, it means he has a much better chance. For example, when in the higher grade it was beaten for pace to the first turn, in this lower grade he probably has enough early speed to be challenging for the lead coming into the first bend.

Or the dog may be a late speed dog but could not produce the finishing spurt needed in the higher grade races, but now, in the lower class race it will be able to finish over the top of the other dogs.

Consider the weight of the dogs, avoid the ‘lightest’ dog. Most often this is a younger dog or a female greyhound (bitch). If you see this scenario then check out the dogs around the lightest dog. If they are much heavier this could prove to be a disadvantage to the lighter dog. Unless it’s a speedy starter and is likely to be away from the crowd by the first turn.

Above all, Senior Citizens can take advantage of Greyhound Betting Systems because its proven to be faster and easier to bet on.

3 Great Reasons to Pick Up Greyhound Trading as a Hobby

People love hobbies for different reasons. Some use hobbies to get away from the stress of their jobs. Others take up hobbies just because of great passion for an activity. There is one thing in common, though – people take up hobbies mostly to have fun.

Consider greyhound racing.

But hey, you might be thinking, “Greyhound racing? I haven’t the slightest idea how that works.” Isn’t it the same thing with other hobbies, though? When it’s your first time playing, say, tennis, did you not have to learn the proper techniques in swinging the racket first?

It’s all right if you have no idea how greyhound racing works. You can always learn it, just as anything else. What’s better is you have an additional motivation for this one – earning extra income.

Is Stock Trading Better Than a Greyhound Betting System?

Stock trading is one good way to make extra money. Even before the internet was commonplace, stock trading has existed and people have been profiting from it. Stock traders earn through changes in the prices of company shares.

Price movement

A common rule of thumb in stock trading is “buy low, sell high”. Traders buy shares that are cheap in the hopes of selling them for a profit when the price goes up. For example, you bought 100 Company A shares at £1 apiece, meaning you invested £100. Let’s suppose that after a month, the share price goes up to £5. So your initial investment of £100 is now £500 in value. You can then sell all your Company A shares for a £400 profit.

What drives this price movement? Mainly, it’s company performance. If Company A grows, its share price goes up. On the other hand, if the company does not perform very well, the share price drops.

Investor sentiment also plays a big role in influencing the share price. If investors (and traders) think that Company A has much potential to do well, they will pour more money into buying its shares. In turn, the share price shoots up. However, even one small mistake that Company A makes can turn the tide. If investors suddenly worry that this mistake will bring the whole company down, they will sell their shares in a heartbeat. Thus, the share price plummets.

But there’s one downside to stock trading.

greyhound betting system

Time

Profiting from stocks takes a lot of time. Unlike in Company A’s example above, real-world companies often do not grow their share prices by 500% in just one month. Growth may take years, or even decades. While you may still profit in the short term, you won’t get much just yet. It will take several years of consistently putting in money to make even more money from stocks.

Not with the Two Trap Greyhound System

With a proven greyhound betting system, you can profit from every greyhound race there is. Races don’t take forever to finish, so profits can come in much, much faster than in stocks. The system has done most of that for you. All you need to do is relax, make an informed bet, and enjoy the game!

What's Better- Crypto Trading or Greyhound Betting?

What’s Better: Crypto Trading or Greyhound Betting?

As you navigate the exciting world of online betting, you might notice the surge in popularity of digital currencies. The realm of cryptocurrencies, such as Bitcoin boasting a value around $6,000, has attracted a myriad of investors eager to capitalise on their high worth.

This modern form of investment often appears simpler than mastering traditional betting systems, where disciplines like greyhound racing come with their own set of complexities.

The gambling industry has always evolved with the times, blending tradition with innovation. While the anticipation and strategy of horse racing and greyhound events remain, they now coexist with technological advancements that have reshaped betting.

Regardless of the weather or location, you can engage in traditional betting methods or explore the fast-paced world of crypto trading, each offering distinct experiences and opportunities for the savvy enthusiast.

Crypto Trading or Greyhound Betting: The Risk

Cryptocurrencies derive most of their value from investor sentiment. In other words, Bitcoin and all the rest base their dollar values on how much money investors throw into them. The more people who exchange their money for Bitcoin, the higher its value rises.

greyhound betting system

On the flip side lies a huge danger. If investors suddenly change their minds and sell their Bitcoins en masse, the cryptocurrency’s value plummets instantly. That’s exactly what has already happened – from nearly $20,000 in 2017, Bitcoin is only now valued at a little over $6,000.

A proven greyhound betting system does not carry that same risk.

Dog racing systems make use of thorough research and proper mathematics to help you make profitable bets. They do not solely rely upon other people’s sentiments. However, these systems do recognise that sentiment has an effect on the odds. So they would also guide you on how to adjust your bets accordingly. With that, you can maximise your profits in every race.

You don’t even have to do most of the work yourself.

With the Two Trap Greyhound System, you don’t need to do all of the analysis on your own. The systems has compiled most of the information you need, and it ultimately helps you make the right choice in every race. A lot of the heavy lifting has been done for you. You can focus on making your bets and enjoying your profits.

The Inherent Uncertainties of Cryptocurrency Markets

Cryptocurrency values, such as Bitcoin, are closely tied to the confidence levels of investors. As more individuals invest their fiat money into cryptocurrencies, their market value inherently increases.

Key risks for crypto investors:

  • Market volatility: The value of Bitcoin has shown dramatic fluctuations, notably plummeting from its peak of nearly $20,000 in 2017 to about $6,000.
  • Investor sentiment: A shift in investor sentiment can lead to mass sell-offs, rapidly decreasing cryptocurrency values.
  • Security concerns: Whilst blockchain offers robust security, trading platforms and crypto wallets can be vulnerable.

Remember, both profits and stakes are substantial in crypto trading, but protecting your financial interests starts with understanding the risks involved. Without a stable reputation like traditional currencies, cryptocurrencies can be a high-risk venture.

You no longer have to go through the trouble of poring over mountains of data yourself; the system does the heavy lifting for you.

All you have to do is follow it. The system takes away most of the worries associated with making a winning bet. “Will my favoured dog win?” “Will it at least go for 2nd place?” “What happens if my dog doesn’t even make it to the top 3?” You no longer have to let these uncertainties bring you down. As long as you follow the recommendations of the Two Trap Greyhound System, you’re guaranteed to earn.

You will rake in consistent profits. The system does not guarantee you will make the biggest wins in each race. However, you are assured of profits in every race you bet on. These profits compounded will add up to significant earnings eventually. All you have to do is to be consistent yourself in applying the system.
